ChatGPT can recall things about you, even in a brand new chat.

Say something once, in an ordinary conversation. Open a totally different chat later, ask something connected — it already knows. Nothing re-typed, nothing dug up in settings.

The exact clicks

  1. Tell ChatGPT something real about yourself once, in an ordinary conversation.
  2. Close that conversation and open a completely new, unrelated chat.
  3. Ask something connected to what you said.
  4. Notice it already knows — you never repeated it.

What changes

  • Memory carries across chats by default now, not just within one conversation.
  • Nothing has to be re-typed or re-explained at the start of a new session.

What it will not do

  • It also applies to chats you'd rather it left alone — memory is per-account, not something you switch on per conversation.
  • This is memory of what you've said, not a guarantee of accuracy — it can carry forward something wrong just as easily as something true.
